Village board extends deadlines for Hansen Landscaping after owner cites settling and budget concerns
Summary
The Village of Waukesha board voted to extend non-asphalt compliance for Hansen Landscaping to July 9 and granted an asphalt completion deadline of Dec. 10 after owner Joe Hansen described ongoing settling of fill under the property and said paving in 2027 would be preferable.

Joe Hansen, owner and president of Hansen Landscaping, told the Village of Waukesha board that his company has cleaned up the site, moved outside storage inside and added landscaping but is seeing ongoing settling of the fill under the property and is wary of paving while that process continues.
"We have cleaned up more items around the site, moved some things around so that the view from Arcadian Avenue is much improved," Hansen said, and later added he wanted to "pretty much line most of Arcadian and our property line to the west with additional trees" to provide screening.
Hansen said the property sits on about 12 to 14 feet of fill and that contractors drilled to virgin ground and installed pilings to support the building; he reported potholes forming after heavy rain and said asphalt laid now could crack if settling continues. He asked to postpone most paving until 2027 and proposed a small 12-foot swath of asphalt near the building this year to reduce mud tracking.
Board members expressed concern about repeatedly extending non-compliance deadlines. One board member said long extensions were "not normal," and others agreed a firm drop-dead date was needed. After discussion the board moved, seconded and approved a split schedule: non-asphalt compliance matters are extended to the board's next meeting on July 9 for final sign-off by the building inspector; asphalt work was given an extended completion date of Dec. 10 of this year to permit the remainder of the asphalt season.
Under the motion, Hansen must arrange for the building inspector to re-inspect outstanding items; if the inspector signs off on the non-asphalt items before July 9 Hansen would not need to appear at that meeting. The motion passed with no opposition recorded.
The board recorded no change to other enforcement procedures in the motion; members asked Hansen to contact the inspector immediately and to provide any additional documentation they requested at the next meeting.
