The Sawyer County Zoning Committee voted Oct. 18 to approve rezone application 24-013, converting 25 acres from Forestry 1 to Agricultural 2 to allow beekeeping and small-scale hobby livestock.
Staff noted the property meets lot-dimension requirements and that the Shoreland Wetland district would not be changed as part of the request. The Town of Meadowbrook had approved the request and 11 notification letters were sent to adjacent property owners with no returned comments.
Applicant Wenda Whitaker said animals would be corralled, kept away from forested wetlands and used primarily by family members (grandchildren) for small-scale purposes. Staff described livestock limits calculated by animal-unit rules (approximately 5.8 AU for the upland portion, equating to a limit of four beef cattle on the upland acreage). Committee member Mr savitzky moved to approve with findings of fact; the motion passed on a roll call with unanimous yes votes recorded.
The approval included the findings of fact listed in the staff report and no additional conditions beyond those findings.
