At the Oct. 10 Sawyer County Finance Committee meeting, Cheryl Treland presented a timeline of tourism development in Sawyer County and described the role of the HLVCB in promoting the Hayward Lakes area.
"The HLVCB’s mission is to increase the number of visitors to the Hayward Lakes area," Treland told the committee. She described a historical timeline dating from 1934 to the present and noted a trend of some resorts converting to condominiums.
Committee member Andy Albarado said the principal barrier to increasing tourism is labor, which he tied to a lack of affordable housing and transportation options within the county. The committee discussed those constraints but took no formal action at the meeting.
