Commission reports Chapman Drive ops center closing, outlines schedule and staff promotions

Waukesha — Utility staff told the commission on Jan. 16 that they have closed on property on Chapman Drive for a new operations center after receiving Public Service Commission approval earlier in the month.
An agency official said the commission received PSC approval on the 7th and closed on the property on the 10th. Staff described an ongoing design process, a forthcoming Planning Commission rezoning review and a schedule that calls for bid awards in April, a construction start in June and occupancy by September 2026.
The same staff update outlined organizational changes tied to departing staff: Matt will be promoted into a managerial role overseeing construction and distribution operations; Pete Skiba will step into a lead operator position; and Troy Mitchell will be promoted into an operator 2 role. The official said formal position changes and grading will return to the commission for approval in February or March.
Staff also showed preliminary renderings of the building and a large equipment garage intended to reduce vehicle stacking and improve safety. No formal votes were required on staffing changes at this meeting; the commission was informed and will consider formal approvals in coming months.
