Waukesha — The Waukesha Utility Commission moved into a closed session on Jan. 16 to confer with legal counsel about the continuing lawsuit Jay Lewis Construction v. City of Waukesha, President Joe Pite said.
“Motion to convene in closed session pursuant to Wisconsin statute 19.85 sub 1 sub g to confer with legal counsel regarding status and strategy with respect to the continuing lawsuit Jay Lewis Construction versus City of Waukesha,” Pite said when introducing the motion. The commission conducted a roll-call vote and recessed to consult privately with counsel.
The commission reconvened in open session later in the meeting. Pite told members there was “no business from closed session to announce.” The meeting then proceeded to routine agenda items.
Under Wisconsin law, the cited provision allows governmental bodies to meet privately to discuss litigation strategy with their attorneys. The commission did not provide further details or a public update from that closed session.
