Congresswoman Brashida Talib appeared at the Garden City City Council meeting June 22 to announce that she had secured three federal project allocations for the city.
Talib said the largest is $2.1 million for the community recreation center rehabilitation project, and she cited $1,092,000 for the Garden City Water System Rehabilitation Project plus $746,868 for a separate water main project. "We were able to get $1,092,000 for the Garden City Water System Rehabilitation Project," Talib told the council and later presented a ceremonial certificate.
Talib said the earmarks are direct projects to the city and that residents’ priorities—clean water and infrastructure—helped shape the submissions. She noted the projects have already advanced through subcommittee or been signed into law and that federal agencies will contact city staff about next steps.
Mayor and council accepted the ceremonial item and thanked the congresswoman for her advocacy.
The funding announcements followed recognitions earlier in the meeting and preceded action on consent and budget items.
