Council schedules public hearing on Local Law regulating convenience and smoke/vape shops; water/sewer tax review requested

Brian Kremer reported that council members should have a copy of Local Law #1 for 2026 (described in the minutes as relating to convenience stores and smoke/vape shops) and that a notice of public hearing will be published; he said a workshop/special meeting will be scheduled and the council will vote at that meeting. The minutes do not include the text of the local law.
Separately, Council Member Bill McCarthy asked the council to place the new water/sewer tax back on a future agenda for review, saying the proposed rates are too high. Mayor Keeler agreed the fees were a concern and said the city does not want to discourage new development.
No formal votes on the local law or tax rates were recorded at the March 24 meeting; the minutes record only that the public-hearing notice will be published and that the local law will be considered at a workshop/special meeting.
