Mojo said the county held a work session and a public hearing that drew a large turnout and differing viewpoints. "We received a lot of testimony and people had very wide varying opinions," she said, adding the county will revisit the decision after the upcoming season. The commission noted the sheriff’s office had expressed concerns and that county legal staff would monitor thresholds for future reconsideration.
Commissioners emphasized the local process had substantial public engagement and agreed the change is subject to review after the 2026 season; no formal county planning action was required at this meeting because the change was made by the Clay County Board of Commissioners.
Mojo also reminded commissioners of a local community event (a pollinator pint night) before the meeting adjourned.
