Mayor Ez used the Office of the Mayor report to praise this year's Butterfest turnout, thank organizers and officers, and preview upcoming community events.
The mayor said attendance appeared to be up from recent years and encouraged organizers to continue trying new ideas. He noted parade-route discussions but said the nostalgia of Main Street is strong. He also promoted upcoming events: the United Fund Bratwurst Dash at Viking (where he said he will be grilling), and the July 4 Freedom Fest beginning at 3 p.m. with music, face painting, a cornhole tournament, vendors and fireworks (with a rain date of July 5). Mayor Ez said the city's pyrotechnics contact expects a show equal to or better than past years.
Several council members and staff offered brief remarks of thanks for Butterfest volunteers; there was no policy action associated with the mayor's report.
