Council hears landfill concerns, plans compost surface and explores RV dump signage

Councilwoman Nunn outlined multiple solid‑waste issues at the June 22 meeting, saying the Solid Waste District’s finances are stable but that the town faces potentially expensive equipment and infrastructure needs.

"We finally have a budget. The Solid Waste District is financially solid," Nunn said, but she warned that compactors and landfill cover could become costly priorities. She said the council included funding in next year’s budget to install solid surface areas to handle compost, explaining that composting does not process or store well when mixed with dirt.

Nunn also said a recent comprehensive OSHA compliance inspection identified safety matters that need improvement or upgrades, and she described those changes as important for employee safety. Separately she raised a practical question about the RV dump station: visitors approaching from the west are unsure which turn leads to the facility. Council members noted that First and Fourth streets are state highways and that the town must seek permission from the Wyoming Department of Transportation before placing directional signs too close to the highway right of way.

The council agreed to investigate the signage question, with members suggesting the town seek DOT permission and coordinate placement within town streets where possible. No formal action or vote was recorded on landfill capital spending at the meeting; the compost surface was presented as a planned budget item for the next fiscal year.
