Cridersville police plan two full-time hires; fire department readies pancake day and holiday drive

Police and fire chiefs updated the council Dec. 10 on staffing, holiday events and community support activities.
Police Chief Chiles said the department began using the Sundance records system in October and is still working through the implementation. He reported 21 traffic stops, 10 citations and 130 calls for the month. Chief Chiles said Officer Ted Falke left the department to transfer retirement credits to another employer. The department is recruiting two full-time officers; one candidate was described as a 16-year police veteran. If both are hired, the department will have five full-time and two part-time officers.
Fire Chief Rick Miller said the volunteer department’s annual pancake day will be Saturday, Dec. 13, coinciding with Christmas on Main Street. He said the department is accepting monetary donations and nonperishable goods for Helping Hand for Christmas and that the elementary school is collecting canned goods. "We expect to be able to help 30–40 families in need," Chief Rick Miller said, and he thanked residents who have already donated.
Council Member Joe Bailey said the group Back the Blue will host a PTSD speaker, Travis Howze, for first responders and is planning events including a car show and food trucks at Midwest Shooting Center next August. Chief Chiles expressed gratitude for Back the Blue’s equipment donations to the police department.
