Cridersville council reviews parks plans, investment earnings and opens vacancy applications after resignation

At its March 10 meeting the Village of Cridersville council discussed park improvements, municipal finances and administrative business including a council vacancy.
Parks: Council Member Stacey Cook said the parks committee is exploring multiple projects and prioritizing a splashpad at Legacy Park. Cook said she will seek grant funding for accessible equipment and suggested using the village text service to run a short community survey on park priorities; she also encouraged children to help with park cleanups and relayed youngsters’ requests for more climbing equipment.
Finance: Council Member Eric West reported the village closed an eight-month certificate of deposit in January that produced $62,906.53 in interest; that sum was reinvested into a seven-month CD that will mature in August and is expected to generate $44,443.01, bringing CD interest earned in 2025 to $107,349.54.
Planning and properties: Dylan Lauck reported seven zoning violations were brought into compliance. Steve Numbers said discussions continue with a realtor to purchase two acres for a potential new well; Jarid Kohlrieser said the village is waiting for EPA input about possible re-use of an existing well before proceeding.
Other business: Mayor Rick Walls and council discussed ongoing trash at 210 W. Sugar Street; officials said the homeowners have received tickets and fines and the village has paid roughly $150 for pickup so far and may assess property taxes to recover costs. Fire Chief Rick Miller raised a safety concern about cars parked overnight behind the tattoo shop and the unsecured fire escape on the Bears Den building.
Governance and events: Council Member Steve Numbers announced his resignation because he is moving out of town; council will accept applications for his vacant seat through March 19 at the village office. Cook announced an Easter Egg Hunt on April 5 (rain date April 12) and noted that Dan Hodges will speak on native plants at Otterbein on March 17. West scheduled a finance meeting to discuss a potential property purchase on March 24 at 7:30 p.m.
