Lima Eagles donate $5,000 for police department upgrades; council reallocates funds for uniforms and FOP coverage

The Village of Cridersville police department received a $5,000 donation from the Lima Eagles to fund flooring and painting at the police department, Police Chief Donnie Chiles told the council on Sept. 8.
Chiles said a second possible donation could help purchase new tasers for the department. He also reported that part-time officer William Welch is still in training and is progressing well.
Chief Chiles requested the council provide an insurance policy available through the FOP that costs $120 per officer annually and covers life, accidental and legal protection. Council approved a motion by Dorrance Thompson, seconded by Joe Bailey, to reallocate $1,500 into the police uniform account and $500 to cover the FOP policy from the Golf Cart fund; the motion passed 5-0.
