Mansfield ISD highlights patent filing and state, national student wins

Dr. Gandel Crutchfield, the new Mansfield ISD school board president, opened the June regular meeting brief by celebrating student achievements across academic, technical and athletic programs.
Crutchfield highlighted Jerry Knights STEM Academy students Anna Lee, Michaela Young, Anna Lackey and Heba Hamdan for sweeping the middle school ranks at the Invention Convention Texas State competition and for competing at the RTX Invention Convention US Nationals in Dearborn, Michigan. Crutchfield said Heba Hamdan placed second in the eighth-grade division and won best live presentation out of 513 finalists, and that Anna Lee received a provisional patent filing date for her invention, Any Brush Cleaner, allowing her to use the term "patent pending." "How cool is that?" Crutchfield said.
The board president also recognized FFA students who placed at state stock shows and rodeos (including the State Fair of Texas, Austin Stock Show and Rodeo, Fort Worth Stock Show and Houston Stock Show), Mansfield students who placed in the Texas Public Safety Association state competitions (categories included crime scene investigation, felony traffic stop and drone search and rescue), and SkillsUSA state placers in CNC programming and automated manufacturing technology.
Crutchfield noted ProStart competitors from Legacy, Mansfield, Summit and Timberview who placed at the Texas ProStart Invitational in culinary and restaurant management; Mansfield High Lady Tigerssecond-place finish at the Army and National High School Drill Team Championships in Daytona Beach, and Summit High boys basketballs 5A-2 state championship win over Beaumont United. She also reported Timberview boys won first place at the state track and field meet and that multiple school athletes medaled in field and track events.
The recognitions preceded a presentation of district 2026 student performance data by the Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability leadership and the boards subsequent budget actions. Crutchfield directed viewers to the district website to review the consent agenda and archived board meetings for more information.
