The South Country Central School District board on Tuesday approved the personnel slate and most business agenda items, with two contracts pulled for separate consideration and narrow opposition recorded on each.
Personnel items H1 through H7 were presented by the superintendent and approved unanimously after a motion and second.
On the business agenda, the superintendent recommended approval of I1 through I18 but trustees pulled items I5 and I9 for separate votes. Item I5 passed with five votes in favor and one opposed. Item I9 also carried with five in favor and one opposed; one trustee spoke against I9 because of the contract's length and urged a shorter initial term with a three-month renewal option so incoming trustees could evaluate ongoing need.
Board discussion noted that the contracts include termination provisions, and supporters said the work has been "exceptional," but at least one trustee remained concerned about committing to a longer initial term before new board members take office. The motions and vote tallies were recorded by the clerk and announced during the meeting.
