Human Resources Manager Melissa Zahourek and Tanya Mulder of HUB International Great Plains presented changes to Lancaster County's voluntary employee benefit offerings on June 25, describing a package that will take effect Jan. 1.
Mulder said the County selected new offerings through Symetra after reviewing proposals from multiple providers. The updated package will include accident insurance, critical illness coverage, hospital indemnity coverage, and identity-theft protection. Mulder said the plans "simplify employee choices by reducing multiple coverage options to a single plan option for each benefit category and eliminating health questionnaires and preexisting condition exclusions," which she called a clearer enrollment pathway for employees.
Zahourek confirmed employees may keep their current coverage through direct billing with their existing provider if they choose, though Mulder anticipated most employees would move to the new payroll-deduction options because of improved benefits and lower premiums. Board members thanked HR and HUB for the provider review and development of the updated benefit package. The meeting record shows no formal vote was required or taken on the benefit changes at this session.
