Fort Thomas organizers finalize July 4 plans, flag safety and logistics; budget noted at $130,000

Fort Thomas event organizers told the Renaissance Board they are moving ahead with a packed July 1–4 schedule of community events — from a pie tasting and bench dedication to a parade, band and fireworks — and that the working budget for those events is $130,000.
Organizers reviewed plans for the pie tasting, a DAR bench dedication and a ceremony to seal a time capsule before the July 4 parade, and asked board members and volunteers to sign up for service shifts. "We'll be sending that out and then the rest of the events will also send something out," a staff member said when describing volunteer coordination.
Savannah, who helped organize the June Flea in the Fort, cautioned organizers after a food truck placed a generator under air vents, producing carbon monoxide that briefly forced closure of the mess hall: "We had to close down the mess hall for a little bit cuz there was carbon monoxide in there. But now we know for next time, don't put the generator by the air vents." Organizers said they will adjust vendor placement and work with police and fire on traffic and parking plans; parking along the parade route and VA-occupied spaces have complicated past event setups.
The board discussed logistics including stagehands, vendor coordination, distribution of event fans and marketing materials for the parade route, and said departments including police and fire (and staff named Greg and Kevin) consider the plan doable. Organizers also noted that some payments and final vendor arrangements remain to be completed.
Why it matters: The multi-day schedule and parade affect traffic, parking and volunteer staffing across the city. Organizers asked the public to watch for forthcoming volunteer emails and noted how vendor and safety lessons from earlier events will be applied to July 4 preparations.
