Silver Creek supervisors authorize $30,000 for crack filling, approve job offers and table dog‑ordinance changes

Silver Creek Township Chair Mike Helman and the four supervisors present on Feb. 5 approved a series of routine financial and personnel items, including a road maintenance authorization and two hiring offers, while postponing changes to the township dog ordinance until the attorney reviews the proposal.
The board voted 4‑0 to authorize up to $30,000 to pay for crack‑filling work, after reviewing competing quotes. Supervisor Andy Christensen moved the measure and Supervisor Ryan Nelson seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The board separately approved the list of disbursements and the audit of claims, which matched checks 19769, 19770 and 19773 to approved disbursements.
On personnel, Chair Mike Helman told the board he had interviewed three finalists for clerk/treasurer and recommended extending an offer to the top candidate. Supervisor Andy Christensen moved that Helman extend an offer at $28.00 per hour for six months with a favorable review to increase the wage to $30.00; the proposal included 16 hours of PTO that would not be available in the first six months. Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded and the motion carried 3‑0, with Supervisor Ryan Nelson recorded as abstaining.
The board also moved to extend an offer to a maintenance candidate at up to $35.00 per hour after Helman and Chris Kline presented the candidate’s interview. Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved the offer and Supervisor Andy Christensen seconded; the motion carried 4‑0. The board said candidate names will be announced once formal offers are accepted.
Chair Helman reported the township processed its first payroll through ADP and provided a payroll update to the board.
The meeting minutes record the adjournment motion as made by Supervisor Brandon Geyen and seconded by Supervisor Andy Christensen, carried 3‑0 at 8:05 p.m.; earlier attendance lines in the minutes list Geyen as absent, which creates an internal inconsistency in the record (see audit note).
