Silver Creek approves disbursements, adds new clerk to bank account and plans accounting review

At its Feb. 17 meeting the Silver Creek Township Board approved routine disbursements and payroll, authorized administrative account changes, and directed the newly hired clerk‑treasurer to review unresolved accounting records for 2024 and 2025.

The board approved a list of disbursements totaling $15,603.20 for claims and $8,561.27 for payroll; the audit of claims referenced check numbers 19781, 19784, 19788 and 19791. A motion to add Clerk‑Treasurer Johann Massmann to the township bank account, remove Nancy B, and authorize a township credit card for Massmann under the employee handbook passed unanimously (5–0).

Massmann has accepted the clerk‑treasurer position and has started work; the board voted for the interim clerk to train Massmann for two weeks and then be available by phone, a motion that passed 5–0. The minutes note a maintenance employment offer was declined; the board reported 29 applicants for the maintenance position with roughly 15 advancing for further review and a few invited to potential interviews next week.

Board members discussed that the CTAS accounting books for 2024 and 2025 remain open and that reports do not match audits. Massmann will review the records and recommend whether to engage a township accountant to close the books and reconcile reports; the minutes estimate accountant fees around $350 per hour but do not record a hiring decision. The board expects Massmann’s recommendation to be presented at a future meeting.
