Silver Creek Township board approves mower, road aprons and routine administrative purchases

The Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors met Jan. 20, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Silver Creek Township Hall and unanimously approved a series of administrative and maintenance actions that the board said are intended to support 2026 road work and township operations.
Chair Mike Helman called the meeting to order and, after adding an annual meeting review to the agenda, the board approved the agenda amendment on a 3-0 vote. The board also approved the Jan. 6, 2026 minutes and disbursements totaling $24,119.35 (motion by Vice Chair Brandon Geyen; second by Supervisor Andy Christensen).
In administrative business, the clerk/treasurer reported that the 2025 audit is starting and that Helman will work with the interim clerk. The board approved purchasing a desktop computer to replace the clerk/treasurer laptop for $831.03 plus IT assistance to transfer files (motion by Mike Helman; second by Brandon Geyen; vote 3-0).
On maintenance and road matters, the board approved purchasing a Schulte model XH1500 Series 5 mower for $47,825.44 (motion by Brandon Geyen; second by Andy Christensen; vote 3-0). The board also authorized soliciting bids for the Baker Ave. road rebuild now so contractor quotes will be available before the end of February (motion by Brandon Geyen; second by Andy Christensen; vote 3-0).
The board approved paying up to $16,000 to add aprons to township gravel drives when Wright County resurfaces County Road 39, a move the board said will help keep gravel on township roads (motion by Andy Christensen; second by Brandon Geyen; vote 3-0).
On personnel, the board reviewed applications for the Clerk/Treasurer position and scheduled interviews beginning Friday, Jan. 23, 2026; Chair Helman and Supervisor Christensen will serve on the interview panel. The board approved an updated driveway permit application for posting on the township website and to follow the current ordinance and fee structure (motion by Brandon Geyen; second by Andy Christensen; vote 3-0). The board set the board of audit for Feb. 10, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Silver Creek Township Hall.
The minutes record that West Central Sanitation responded to a letter from the township attorney and refunded the township for fuel surcharges that were not listed in the contract; the refund amount is recorded in the minutes as $28,554.47. The clerk/treasurer presented the matching of checks 19745, 19750, 19755 and 19762 to the approved disbursement list.
The board approved up to $300 to purchase chair-moving dollies to protect the township hall floor (motion by Mike Helman; second by Brandon Geyen; vote 3-0) and authorized up to $750 with Monticello Printing for postcards and mailing fees to notify residents about the annual meeting (motion by Brandon Geyen; second by Andy Christensen; vote 3-0).
The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m. after a unanimous vote to adjourn (motion by Brandon Geyen; second by Andy Christensen). The township will proceed with the advertised bid solicitations for Baker Ave., conduct hiring interviews starting Jan. 23, and hold its board of audit on Feb. 10.
