At its June 25 meeting the Coachella Valley Unified School District board approved several key governance items and announced administrative actions taken in closed session.
The board approved the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and a federal addendum for 2026–27 after trustees praised staff work and community input. The motion passed by roll call.
Trustees also approved the proposed 2026–27 budget by roll call. One trustee recorded a "No" on the budget vote, and another voiced public objections to specific cuts and to the overall distribution of funds during the meeting.
The board approved multiple agreements and personnel items during the consent and action calendar, including a service agreement for average daily attendance consulting, continued participation in the district dental pool, a tenant agreement with the California School Employees Association (Chapter 109), and a tentative agreement with the teachers' association. Several agreements were described and then carried by roll call; some motions drew recorded dissent.
After returning from closed session, the board announced it had taken action on multiple expulsion reinstatement cases and a settlement (OAH #2026040984) effective June 25, 2026. The board also announced the appointment of Bianca Gania as executive assistant to the superintendent and board of trustees, effective June 25, 2026; the appointment passed five to one with Trustee Ardondo recorded as voting no.
What was not changed at the meeting: trustees did not adopt new policies on data centers or asthma programs; trustees indicated staff will continue drafting policy language and bring follow‑up items back to the board.
