LAUSD board appoints Andres E. Chait as superintendent and authorizes non‑re‑election of 11 probationary certificated employees

Following a closed session at Monday’s special meeting, the Los Angeles Unified School District board reported two personnel actions: authorization of non‑re‑election for 11 certificated probationary employees and the appointment of Andres E. Chait as General Superintendent of Schools.

Andres E. Chait addressed the board and community after the appointment and thanked board members, district staff and his family. He said he began his career nearly 30 years ago in a kindergarten classroom at Queen Anne Elementary and described a student‑centered focus for his leadership.

The board did not read the names of the 11 certificated probationary employees in the open report; personnel items were discussed in closed session under government code authority as noted on the meeting agenda.
