The funding announcement matters because both districts reported near-term construction that will affect county roads. Representatives of Hardin County Water District #1 said they are working on ground restoration and expect to start work on Highway 361 in June or July, with an estimated duration of 60–90 days. Hardin County Water District #2 reported work on Commerce Drive that should be complete by the end of June.
“They have met and agreed with a split of 27% for Hardin Co. Water District #1 and Hardin County Water District #2 receiving approx.73% of the $4 million over two years from the State,” Judge/Executive Keith Taul said. Representatives from the districts described the schedules: Water District #1 expects a 60–90 day restoration window on Highway 361; Water District #2 expects Commerce Drive work to finish by the end of June.
Committee members present included Chairman Kenneth Muse and Magistrates Patsy Whitehead, Fred Clem and Aaron Pennington; other attendees included Road Supervisor Michael Steck, County Engineer Mark Absher, Planning & Development Adam King, Buildings & Grounds John Bowen, and representatives from the two water districts. Stephanie Givens, Dept. of Public Works, said staff are finishing grant applications that could provide additional project support.
Next steps noted at the meeting included coordination between district staff and county engineers on traffic impacts and work sequencing; no formal vote or ordinance was taken on the funding split at the committee meeting.
