Waterford police commission approves Cross Road sign, accepts officer nominations

The Waterford Board of Police Commissioners met May 11 in the Town Hall Auditorium and recorded several routine and administrative actions.
The commission voted unanimously to approve a "Blind Drive" or similar warning sign for southbound traffic approaching Cross Road Presbyterian Church after the Traffic Report was presented. The motion to approve was made by Commissioner T. Sheridan and seconded by Commissioner C. Gamble.
The board received routine monthly reports for April — including K9, Youth, Investigative Services, Training, Support Services, Patrol, Animal Control and Community Engagement — with no substantive follow-up recorded in the minutes.
After discussion, the commission determined that membership in the Police Commissioner Association "is not a good fit" and will not pursue joining at this time.
For the term starting June 1, 2026, the commission nominated Commissioner T. Sheridan as Chairperson, Commissioner C. Gamble as Vice-Chairperson and Commissioner J. Dimmock as Secretary. Commissioner R. Brule moved to accept the nominations; Commissioner C. Gamble seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner T. Sheridan also raised interest in the Police Athletic League (PAL), noting Steve Cohen — formerly of the Mystic Aquarium and a former Stonington Police Commission member — currently leads PAL. Chief D. Ferland agreed to meet with Mr. Cohen to explore opportunities.
The board accepted the April 13, 2026 meeting minutes after a motion by Commissioner Sheridan and second by Commissioner Brule; Commissioner Gamble abstained but the motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 5:29 p.m.
