Danvers Select Board approves Johnnie’s license transfer, reappoints long-serving registrar and OKs consent items

The Danvers Select Board on April 21 voted unanimously on several routine governance items, including a transfer of a common victualler license for Johnnie’s Beef and Pizza and the reappointment of a long-serving member of the Board of Registrars.
Owner Lejja Saini appeared before the board seeking a transfer of the Common Victualler license for 67 High Street (Johnnie’s Beef and Pizza). The applicant told the board the business currently also owns Gio’s in Danvers and that no menu or staff changes were planned. The board closed the public hearing and approved the application on motions by Select Board Member Gardner S. Trask III with a second recorded by Select Board Member Michael Bean; the vote was 5-0.
The board also moved to reappoint Wally Tipert to a three-year term as the Republican representative on the Board of Registrars, citing his 35 years of service; the motion by Select Board Member Trask, seconded by Select Board Member Bean, passed 5-0.
On a motion by Select Board Member Daniel C. Bennett, seconded by Select Board Member Michael Bean, the board approved the Consent Calendar (vote 5-0). Consent items included a block-party permit for Gardner Trask (31 Fellows Street, Aug. 1, 2026; rain date Aug. 2) and approvals related to gas storage/LP gas equipment for several businesses (including local Walmart and Costco locations, Merrimack Valley Distributing Company, Eastern Propane, LP Gas Equipment, M, M & D Energy, and Lowe’s). The minutes record the consent calendar as approved without roll-call vote details beyond the 5-0 tally.
Acting Town Manager Rodney Conley announced the Townwide Cleanup scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Town Clerk announced early voting in the Toomey Room on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., noted that Election Day is Tuesday, May 5, at the Danvers High School Fieldhouse from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and reminded residents that vote-by-mail remains available.
