Board approves one-night Summerfest beer sales deal and allows additional vendors

The Cedar Lake Park Board approved a one-night Summerfest event agreement that allows Bugaboos to sell alcohol under a revenue-sharing arrangement and authorized additional food vendors to participate.
Staff said Rockcology is scheduled to play Sept. 18, and Bugaboos agreed to a compensation arrangement: Bugaboos would take 10% of alcohol sales after the first $500 to cover payroll costs, according to staff. ‘‘They did 10% of all alcohol sales after the first $500 to cover cost of the payroll,’’ a staff member said when summarizing the agreement.
Board members discussed vendor access and whether other vendors would be allowed. Several members said future events will use vendor applications to provide equitable opportunities; one member expressed concern about giving a local business exclusive benefits for a two-day festival but agreed the one-night plan was acceptable this year. The board approved the motion to allow Bugaboos to manage beer sales and to permit additional food vendors by a 3–0 vote.
The board noted the event was previously scheduled under the former superintendent and that applications will be used going forward to manage vendor participation more transparently.
