The Waterford Board of Selectmen on April 7 voted to award a $222,810 contract to Mid Con Construction LLC to replace the front‑entrance brick, reconstruct sidewalks and curbing, add ADA‑compliant ramps and handrails, and resurface the police station parking lot.
Public Works Director Gary Schneider said seven bids were received and the low bidder came in below the engineer’s estimate. Schneider described the project scope: remove and replace deteriorated brick at the main and side entrances (memorial bricks will be set aside and offered to families or the police department), install 5‑foot concrete sidewalks and concrete curbing to achieve the proper ADA pitch for accessible parking, add railings, replace low bollard lighting and coordinate ingress/egress plans with the police department during construction.
Shay Davie, the purchasing agent who presented the recommendation, said the contractor will have 90 days from contract execution to complete the work; Schneider estimated the contractor should be able to finish in 60–65 days but the contract allows 90 to accommodate weather. Board members asked whether underground utilities or wiring could add cost; Schneider said the team tested existing circuits and expects conduit for the lighting, but noted that if problems are discovered during demolition they could add extras.
The board approved the award by voice vote. Public Works will manage contract oversight and coordinate with the police department on access and handling of memorial bricks during the work.
