Aurora committee approves $244,000 Phillips Park irrigation pump replacement; vendor expects long lead times

The Aurora Committee of the Whole voted on June 22 to award item 26-0372, a $244,000 contract to Midwest Well Services doing business as Pump Station Professionals, to replace the irrigation pump system for Mastodon Lake at Phillips Park (Ward 3). Ian Wade of the engineering division said the replacement will update pumps and electronics that serve the golf course and surrounding park irrigation.

Details: Wade said the city received two bids that were close and the low bidder came in well under the engineer’s estimate. The recommended contractor indicated it may be able to avoid major demolition of the pump building by breaking components into pieces that fit through existing doors or hatches; Wade said the bulk of the project time will be waiting for components, which currently carry lead times of five to six months, and that the on-site installation work should take roughly three to four days once parts arrive.
Motion and outcome: Alderman Mizejewski moved to approve the award, Alderman Larson seconded, and the motion passed by voice vote, 3-0.
Next steps: Staff will finalize contracting and track component lead times to schedule work so the system is in place before the next irrigation season.
