During the second public-comment period Rick Galen delivered an extended tribute to Tarrant, recounting more than 30 years of service to students as a teacher and later as a board director. Galen said Tarrant "helped young people discover their own verse" and detailed Tarrant’s support for college counseling and student advocacy.
Board members also offered tributes from the dais, praising Tarrant’s calm presence, curriculum advocacy and long record of volunteerism in student activities. The board president asked the public to hold July 16 beginning at 5:00 p.m. for candidate interviews; public notice of the interview start time will be provided in compliance with Sunshine laws.
What happens next: the vacancy application window closes July 9; the board will interview candidates and take a vote at the July 16 meeting.
