County hears update: Schuyler Inn shelter could receive more than $1 million for repairs and upgrades

An official identified as Mr. Cameron said the adult program that runs the Schuyler Inn provided an action plan and that the Tri‑County consortium grant originally estimated at about $577,000 now looks likely to exceed $1 million. "It looks like we're likely to get over a million for that," he said. He listed priority infrastructure improvements that would be funded if grants are finalized: roof renovations, HVAC/heating units, electrical work, repaving the front parking lot, and replacement of bedroom furniture in about 65 rooms. He said improvements could begin contracting around July 1 if the larger grant award is confirmed.
Mr. Cameron and county staff also discussed staffing and training improvements to reduce calls on emergency services and to make better use of existing county mental-health and victim-services resources. County DSS was described as monitoring grant progress and holding the shelter "feet to the fire" to ensure the plan stays on track; staff said additional grant applications are also being pursued.
Committee members asked about timelines and next steps; staff said the board is scheduled to vote in July on the larger grant award. The committee did not take an additional vote at the meeting.
