Beaver County to open courthouse parking garage for weekend event after elevator repairs

Beaver County officials said the courthouse parking garage will open Saturday to support Beaver County Boom and will be reserved for county employees beginning Monday, after staff completed elevator repairs and landscaping work.

The department head who reported on the garage said the elevator damage from last week was repaired and that the elevator repair cost was $14,000; a separate door replacement related to the control room was being quoted and would be handled outside the main garage contract. He said the county is pursuing restitution for the damage and that detectives are investigating juvenile break-ins linked to the incident.

County staff explained the garage will be used as a Park-and-Ride site for the event, with shuttle buses shuttling attendees to Bridgewater. Officials cautioned that a few areas of the lot may remain blocked for cleanup and tree work; they asked residents to follow posted signs and to use shuttle services where provided. Project management staff (Blake, project manager) were reported to be on-site and working to meet the Saturday opening timeline.

Speakers also raised operational issues for the facility’s top floor: because heavy snow and plowing equipment damage the surface, staff said that portion may be closed during significant winter storms to allow snow removal and to protect the structure.

Next steps: staff expect to receive the door-repair quote soon and will continue to coordinate with detectives about the break‑in investigation. The garage is scheduled to open to the public for Beaver County Boom on Saturday with shuttles and to open for employees the following Monday.
