ROCORI board approves 2026–27 budget, accepts $11,575 donation and votes to pursue renewal of capital projects levy

At its June 22 meeting, the ROCORI Public School District board approved a slate of routine and planning actions: it approved two small vendor payments, adopted the district's 2026–27 budget, accepted an $11,575 donation for girls soccer uniforms and voted to pursue renewal of the district's capital projects levy to appear on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.
The board approved two payments to Cold Spring Bakery (one for $70.99 and one for $179.98) by roll-call vote. Later, the board reviewed the proposed 2026–27 budget, which staff described as "fairly balanced" but showing roughly $100,000 of deficit spending projected for the next fiscal year; the board then voted to adopt the budget for 2026–27.
The board also approved a resolution accepting a donation of $11,575 from the Rocori Booster Club to purchase girls soccer uniforms. "Donation accepted," the clerk recorded after a roll-call vote.
On the capital projects levy, staff and board members discussed timing and cost trade-offs for placing a renewal question before voters. Kevin (district staff) noted that the capital projects levy generates about $450,000 a year and recommended placing the question on the November general election to save election costs: "By going in the general election next fall a year early, we're going to save 20 to 25,000 dollars probably just in election costs," Kevin said. The board then voted (motion by Robin, seconded by Matt) to move forward with steps to renew the levy and directed staff to prepare the necessary resolutions.
As part of the election timeline, the board adopted a resolution establishing candidate filing dates that will open July 14, 2026 and close July 28, 2026 at 5 p.m.; the board clarified the nominal $2 candidate filing fee is deposited to the district general fund. The board also acknowledged a state constitutional amendment concerning the permanent school fund will appear on the same statewide ballot and asked staff to prepare voter-facing explanations to avoid confusion.
The meeting closed with a superintendent report on summer programming and facilities, a budget comparison update and committee reports. With no visitor comments the board adjourned.
