Township Engineer Aaron Moyer updated the Board on the Trindle & Locust roundabout project, a joint effort with PennDOT. Under the proposed arrangement PennDOT would manage construction while the Township would handle design to secure an earlier start date. An environmental and archaeological study required by PennDOT identified concerns requiring remediation, which Mr. Moyer estimated would cost roughly $200,000.
Mr. Moyer said Herbert, Rowland & Grubic (HRG) will meet with PennDOT to review the study findings and remediation strategies and associated costs. Township Manager Raymond Palmer noted that because part of the roundabout falls inside Monroe Township, he will meet with Monroe officials to request financial support for the remediation and construction work. Mr. Moyer also said he will help staff develop communications explaining upcoming impervious surface mandates that will affect cumulative calculations for development projects.
Why it matters: The remediation cost estimate increases the Township’s potential financial exposure for the project and may influence funding negotiations with PennDOT and Monroe Township. The Board recorded the update and directed coordination with HRG and PennDOT on next steps.
