Simsbury subcommittee advances resource guide updates, Expo planning and caregivers support referral

At its June 2 meeting, the Simsbury Age-Friendly Community Sub-Committee discussed revisions to a Resource Guide (magnet and book), outreach for the Aging in Place Expo scheduled for September, and referred a caregivers support-group item to the full Aging and Disability Commission.

Edward J. LaMontagne, clerk, said he had "spoken with Kristen Formanek from Simsbury Community and Social Services as well as Kathy Marshall, Senior Center Director. Most of the action items for these two departments have been met or are currently in process." He also said he will forward final suggestions for the Resource Guide magnet to Trailhead Printing.

Committee members noted that a larger magnet may be needed to fit all the Resource Guide information and to make text easier for seniors to read. Jen Seiderer provided links and documents to include in the Resource Guide Book, such as the ADA Guide for Small Business, an ADA-compliant website checklist, the Simsbury Medical Loan Locker and a disability laws overview; Mr. LaMontagne will take the compiled guide to Trailhead Printing for production.

Members also reviewed outreach for the Aging in Place Expo and said planning will continue through the summer because some agencies indicated it was too early to finalize participation. The committee determined the Caregivers Support Group would be better addressed as an agenda item for the full Aging and Disability Commission rather than handled solely by the sub-committee.

Votes at a glance: The committee unanimously accepted the May 5, 2026 minutes; the motion to accept was moved by Libby Easton-May and seconded by Cheryl Cook.
