Simsbury subcommittee awarded $14,000 AARP grant to buy MobiMats

"AARP has accepted our grant application. The town will receive $14,000.00 to purchase MobiMats," Beatty said, adding that the award would cover "the purchase of the mats, storage receptacle, delivery and taxes." She said the mats may not arrive until the end of the summer.
Why it matters: MobiMats are portable access pathways designed to help people using walkers, wheelchairs and other mobility devices traverse soft or uneven ground. The sub-committee presented the award as a step toward making outdoor town spaces more accessible for older residents and people with disabilities.
The announcement did not include a formal motion or vote; the grant was reported as an award accepted by AARP. The committee’s next steps include awaiting delivery and coordinating storage and deployment once the equipment arrives.
