Residents urge Josephine County to fund code enforcement during public comment

Several residents used the public comment period at the Josephine County Board of Commissioners' June 10, 2026 session to press the Board to fund and strengthen county code enforcement.
Debra Lawell (Josephine County) urged the Board to provide funding for the county's code enforcement function. Julie Hartfod of Grants Pass and Libby Watts of Grants Pass also spoke in favor of funding code enforcement. Nannette Chase recounted her history with the county's code-enforcement process and offered to meet with commissioners to discuss concerns. Mark Jones of Josephine County spoke on code enforcement as well.
Michael Carpeneto of Grants Pass suggested that revenue from county parking-pass sales be used to create a taxpayer benefit or "perk" for property taxpayers; the minutes record the suggestion but do not show any subsequent action or Board response. Judy Aherns spoke about plans for a Reading of the Declaration event at the Courthouse steps for July 4.
