Commissioner Colene Martin presented a draft resolution June 2 affirming tobacco retail enforcement as the primary local strategy to prevent youth access to tobacco and nicotine products and to protect adult consumer choice.
Representatives from United Strategies and Consulting described the resolution's intent and raised concerns about the potential impacts of statewide flavor bans and additional regulatory requirements on local businesses. Legal Counsel advised the board that additional review of applicable agreements and legal considerations was warranted before any action. The board agreed to continue the discussion after the requested legal research.
Separately, the board considered an appointment: Commissioner Martin moved to appoint Heather Glass to the Josephine County Law Enforcement Service District Citizens Advisory Committee. Commissioner Gary Richardson seconded; the motion passed on a roll call vote of 3–0.
Chair Ron Smith also volunteered to serve as the board's liaison to the Citizens Advisory Committee.
