Cam City Council and staff used the June 23 meeting to finalize planning details for this year's Fiesta Days, including rules for demolition-derby participants and a change of location for the night's fireworks display.
Event staff, including Steve and Trevor, described inspection, ticketing and pit-crew procedures intended to limit crowding and improve safety. Officials said each derby entry will be allowed one pit-crew vehicle (a truck and trailer) and one pit-crew member; wristbands will be issued only after ticket thresholds are met to avoid excess attendees in pit areas.
Council and staff also discussed parking and gate control to avoid last-year's congestion, adding dumpsters near pit areas for trash control, and coordinating egress for emergency access. Mark, representing event operations, asked for firm rules so participants know pit-crew limits and parking expectations.
The presiding official said staff had secured a fireworks launch site on a private parcel across from White Knight (identified by staff as Ralph's property) and arranged for the fire department to have personnel present. "I'll get Scott Thrill and the fire department to have staff there, too," the presiding official said, describing the new location as "away from the maintenance shed, away from the houses." Councilors expressed hope the new location would still be visible to attendees while reducing neighborhood impacts.
No formal action was required; staff will continue coordination and bring any needed agenda items back to council.
