The council adopted ordinance 2026-18 after a brief presentation and motion. The presiding official noted the ordinance "didn't change" policy substance but corrected language that had referred to "amending instead of adopting." Council members signaled support and the measure passed with all members voting in favor.
On compensation for statutory officers, the council opened a public hearing (no speakers) and discussed a technical wording change. Councilors agreed to remove the word "elective" from section one so the ordinance would not conflict with existing compensation rules for the mayor and council. A motion to approve the ordinance with that correction passed unanimously.
Council also considered resolution 2026-05, authorizing the mayor to order prohibitions on fireworks and other fire-ignition devices within city limits. Council members discussed whether the resolution's reference to "smoking" needed clarification — whether it covered cigarette butts only or would also restrict barbecue smokers and similar equipment — but noted past practice and reliance on state Fire Marshal guidance. A motion to adopt the resolution passed on a unanimous voice vote.
The council took no further votes at the meeting. The presiding official said staff and the city attorney would provide further comparative materials and clarifications when additional or related land-use items return to the agenda.
