Beaver Borough weighs $70,000–$90,000 estimate to repave Shaw Park parking lot

During the Sept. 10 Beaver Borough Council meeting, Borough Manager Dan Madgar reviewed the need to repave the parking lot next to the tennis courts in Shaw Park, emphasizing that drainage improvements could be completed while repaving work is done.
Madgar gave a preliminary estimate for the project of approximately $70,000 to $90,000 and stated that Columbia Gas is not expected to complete any work that would necessitate paving in 2025. The estimate was presented as an item for further consideration rather than a finalized contract award.
Councilmembers also heard other community updates: Margaret McKean announced Fort McIntosh Day at the Fort McIntosh site on River Road and noted a Waterlot project presentation scheduled for the September work session. Manager Madgar listed upcoming community events (a siren test, Wine Festival, a fundraiser, and a fire department open house) and updated the council that the Beaver Life magazine publisher has experienced delays but expects to provide a proof for mailing and is reviewing a new, lower-cost format.
During public comment, resident Jim Woolley requested a copy of the treasurer's report and asked about the draft 2025 budget; Amy Stettler said the draft budget is expected to be reviewed at the October work session. Woolley also told the council he believes the new 4-way stop at 5th and Market streets is working.
Council did not vote on the Shaw Park paving project during the meeting; the item remains under consideration.
