Will County Board approves resolution setting number of assistant state's attorneys after debate

The Will County Board voted on June 18 to approve Resolution 26-206, which sets the number of assistant state's attorneys. Speaker Van Dy moved the resolution and, after discussion, the board approved it by roll call.
Member Traneer said she would not support increasing the number, citing lack of clarity and expressing frustration with accessing information in the county's new document system. "I am not in favor of upping the number of state's attorneys," Traneer said, adding she believed the office had already received additional staff since the COVID period and noting that the state's attorney had not been present at recent meetings. By contrast, Member Revvice observed that the state's attorney's office has been very busy and suggested that workload explains the need for more staff.
Madame clerk recorded 17 votes in the affirmative and the motion carried. The resolution will be implemented according to county staffing procedures; no specific new budget appropriation was discussed during the June 18 action.
