The Will County Board removed a proposal to establish a county land bank from its June 18 agenda and directed leadership to hold a committee-of-the-whole session in early July to review the idea further.
Speaker Van Dy moved to remove Resolution 26-199 (the proposed Will County Land Bank) after several members said they wanted more information and discussion. "I will work with staff and the leadership to come up with a date in early July for a committee the whole and then present this item to full board in July," Van Dy said during debate. The motion to remove the resolution carried following a roll call vote.
Member Nquis asked where the item had originated after members found materials on their desks; Van Dy responded that Member Balage had left the information for members. Member Ogala said she appreciated the opportunity to address questions and called the plan "a fabulous idea" to be vetted in committee.
The board did not take a substantive vote on whether to create a land bank; instead, members chose to delay action and request further staff work and leadership review. Van Dy and other board members described the next step as a committee-of-the-whole meeting where members can examine details and hear staff recommendations before the measure returns to the full board.
