Residents press Owen County on air-quality testing and neighborhood safety during public comment

A resident said she had been told an air-quality review was conducted and that the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) contacted county staff and would send a letter; county staff said they had received a call from IDEM at about 4 p.m. and would pass along the information to the appropriate county official.
A neighboring resident, Diane, described ongoing problems on her street that she said include trespassing, aggressive behavior and threats. "I'm starting to get scared," she told commissioners, and asked sheriff's deputies and county officials to prosecute or otherwise enforce violations. The sheriff and chief deputy were present and acknowledged the complaint; staff said citations and ordinance-enforcement steps were in process for certain properties and that priorities were set by available enforcement resources.
In earlier public comment, another resident urged transparency on the jail/sewer project and recommended hiring two people rather than combining HR and administrative roles; he also suggested exploring mutual-aid agreements between counties to share road crews during storms.
County staff asked residents to provide addresses and supporting documentation and said they would continue to follow up with IDEM and the sheriff's office.
