Council Member Harris briefed the Equity and Empowerment Commission on June 18 about follow‑up from a recent community meeting with the nearby waste transfer station. Harris said the city has requested the station’s chemical compound information but had not yet received a full report; staff are awaiting that data for review.
Harris said the company provided a contact number that will be posted at the site for after‑hours or real‑time concerns; the transcript records the number as "224 212‑933‑9," which appeared incomplete in the meeting readout. Harris also said the city created a 311 tracking line specifically for complaints about the transfer station.
On site remediation and monitoring, Harris reported the city identified adjacent property where foliage will be cleared to improve oversight and that staff are arranging meetings with lawyers and other stakeholders to discuss next steps and accountability mechanisms under the host community agreement. Commissioners said they will keep the matter "at the forefront" and thanked residents for patience; Jerry of the Environment Board noted the item remains an ongoing community concern.
No regulatory decision or enforcement action was reported at the meeting; the commission received an operational update and will await the chemical composition data and the outcome of legal discussions.
