Zeeland board: Sunday alcohol sales cleared; parking agreement updated and downtown projects may disrupt lots

City staff told the Shopping Area Redevelopment Board that formal approvals for Sunday alcohol sales have been completed and that individual license holders must file for a Sunday sales permit with the MLCC.
"All formal approvals for Sunday Alcohol Sales have been given," Marketing Director Abigail deRoo said, and staff has supplied license holders with the information needed to file the required permit. deRoo also reported that Gritzmaker, Vitales and Streats indicated they will file for the Sunday-sales permit even if they do not open regular Sunday hours.
deRoo updated the board on downtown parking: new parking instructions have been delivered to downtown users, the parking-lot agreement with Huntington Bank was updated to include additional spaces, and the city is working with NorthStreet Church to determine whether that agreement requires revision. Additional signage has been ordered to clarify parking expectations. Board members raised that vehicles—particularly those belonging to business owners—continue to park illegally along the curb in the South Parking Lot.
On downtown projects, staff said LaCreme Creamery and Crepes is being sold and the new owner has filed requests with the city and the MLCC to transfer the liquor license; City Council will review the transfer at its Dec. 15 meeting and staff recommended approval. The Koele Godfrey project at 123 E. Main is scheduled to begin the first week of January; staff warned the project will create short-term disruptions in the North Municipal Parking Lot.
None of the items reported in this update involved a formal SARB vote at the Dec. 11 meeting; several are informational or are pending City Council action. City Council consideration of the LaCreme license transfer is scheduled for Dec. 15; the board was told the Koele Godfrey project will begin in January and that staff expect only short-term parking impacts.
