Zeeland commissioners volunteer for downtown parking group; master plan RFP responses due Dec. 12, demolition of 123 E Main Ave expected in January

City staff asked the Planning Commission to appoint representatives to an internal working group to address parking challenges in Zeeland's Central Business District and reported several administrative updates.
Zoning Administrator Timothy Maday said the city has been working with a parking consultant and proposed forming an internal group with representatives from both the Planning Commission and the Shopping Area Redevelopment Board (SARB). Commissioners Dan Klompmaker and Amanda Cooper volunteered to serve as the commission’s representatives.
Maday also welcomed Mayor Rick VanDorp to the commission and congratulated Commissioner Rebecca Perkins on her recent election to the City Council; Perkins will serve concurrently as the City Council liaison to the Planning Commission. Maday reported one current vacancy on the Planning Commission; the minutes state it will be filled following the mayor’s recommendation and appointment by the City Council. He reminded commissioners that responses to the city’s master plan rewrite request for proposals (RFP) are due Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, and noted he has already received some submissions from planning consultants. Maday provided an update on a planned demolition and reconstruction by Koele Godfrey Investment Group at 123 E Main Ave, saying demolition construction is expected to begin in the early weeks of January 2026.
The meeting’s procedural motions were recorded in the minutes: a motion to excuse the absent commissioner (moved by Klompmaker, supported by Cooper), approval of the Nov. 6, 2025 meeting minutes (moved by Klompmaker, supported by Cooper), and a motion to adjourn at 6:11 p.m. (moved by Klompmaker, supported by Cooper). The minutes close with a signature line reading "Respectfully submitted, Nadine Garza" while the attendance list earlier names the recording secretary as Nadine Hopping; the minutes do not reconcile that discrepancy.
