Council adopts local parking and firearms ordinances and approves K‑9 surplus

• Parking code amendment: Staff requested that parking tickets issued in town be treated as local‑ordinance violations so the resulting fines and fees remain with the town rather than being remitted to the state. Staff said local ordinance status would reduce court costs for residents (staff cited roughly $176 in court fees that currently apply under the state‑violation process). Council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance amendment.
• Firearms prohibition in town‑operated buildings: Planning/attorney staff introduced an ordinance to prohibit carrying firearms inside town‑owned or town‑operated buildings, with statutory exemptions for sworn law‑enforcement officers and other legally exempt persons; signs will be posted at Town Hall, the Carl Parnell Safety Complex and other facilities. Council adopted the ordinance after motion and second.
• Surplus K‑9: Chief Lincoln requested the town surplus K‑9 Jaeger to accompany Officer Max Power, who is resigning. Officer Power agreed to reimburse the town for the dog so the police department can procure a replacement K‑9. Council approved the surplus; staff noted the reimbursement will be a condition of the transfer.
All three items were moved, seconded and carried during the meeting.
