Rye Select Board approves multiple beach event permits, adds courtesy notice and conditional surf approval

Police Chief Scott Blaisdell reviewed multiple pending beach permit applications and presented details to the Select Board. Beach Committee Vice-Chair Coleen Penancho asked that the committee be copied on permit submissions so it can respond to resident inquiries and requested that businesses be reminded to practice 'beach courtesy.' The Select Board agreed that approved event permit applications will be emailed to the Beach Committee and that Selectwoman Suzanne Barton would work with Chief Blaisdell to add courtesy wording to the application form.
The board then moved through individual permit approvals. Motions by Vice-Chair Howard Kalet, seconded by other board members, carried unanimously to approve Rye Hot Yoga, Project Soul Yoga, Cinnamon Rainbow and E Street Surf School permit applications. The Select Board noted it does not have authority over surfing lessons at Rye Harbor; Summer Session Surf Shop must work with New Hampshire State Parks. The board gave Summer Session conditional approval pending receipt of an updated insurance policy before the permit is fully approved.
The board’s actions add a modest administrative step to improve communication between town staff and the volunteer Beach Committee and place a conditional insurance requirement on one surf-school permit.
