Pool opening, library programs and a June 20 blood drive highlighted at Empire MAC meeting

Multiple community-service announcements were made at the Empire Municipal Advisory Council meeting on May 28.

Lucy Torres, deputy director of the Police Activities League, told the council that the Empire Community Pool will open for the season on Tuesday and that swim lessons for children ages 3 to 12 are available starting at $45 per child; the pool will offer four free-entry days this year, with dates to be posted on the program’s social media.

The branch manager of the Empire Public Library outlined the library’s summer-reading program and ongoing children’s activities designed to encourage reading with prize incentives.

Danielle Morgan, representing Assemblymember Juan Alanis (22nd District), announced a Red Cross blood drive on June 20; residents can register at redcrossblood.org using sponsor code “Juan Alanis.” Morgan also mentioned that AB 528 and AB 873 are expected to be brought to the Assembly for a vote soon and could be sent to the governor’s desk.

Claudia Camarena, principal of Empire Elementary, said the last day of school is Friday, summer school begins Wednesday and school food distribution will continue through the summer except for July 5.

Jennifer Hidalgo, reporting for the Stanislaus County Chief Executive Office, also noted that the Animal Services Agency is recruiting advisory-committee members from unincorporated areas; flyers with details were available at the back of the room.
