Rangely council approves August financials and renews Pinion Tree liquor license amid projected budget shortfall

The Rangely Town Council voted Sept. 23 to approve the town’s August 2025 financial statement and to renew the liquor license for Pinion Tree Liquor, Liquor Incorporated.
Interim Town Manager Lisa Pairing told the council the general fund "looks a little better" but flagged a projected severance shortfall of more than $500,000 over coming years tied to state budget trends; she said the town will need to conserve funds across departments. The gas fund showed a temporary negative balance related to capital spending that staff expect to even out with anticipated reimbursements in November and December.
Councilmember Todd Bank moved to approve the August financial statement, seconded by Councilmember Sean Morgan; the motion carried. The council then considered a renewal of a liquor license for Pinion Tree Liquor. Councilmember Tim Weber moved to renew the license, and Robbie Elum seconded; the motion carried.
No additional appropriations were approved at the meeting. Staff noted quarterly grant reimbursements and ongoing cost pressures will inform budget planning in the coming months.
